Reflections on Two Irish Films
Lecture and workshop on Irish films presented by Lara Newton with another local analyst. In the films that we reviewed for this seminar, we found several themes that were consistently present. This paper takes two of those films and explores them with regard to three of the themes - the influence of the otherworld, the powerful ties of mother-child-father, and animal spirit guides. The films are “The Secret of Roan Inish” and “Into the West.” These films are rich with mythic references and symbology. I’ve never published this paper anywhere, but I love the themes and the movies, so I wanted to share it with the readers of my website.
